I want to make a partition on my hard drive to install another XP home. My
hard drive is 20 GB, 10 GB free. the computer tells me the the maximum space
for a new partition is 8MB, is my HD too small? how do I create a 5GB
partition? tia

On next startup Tap Delete Button ( or whichever Button your computer
manual says ) to get into the Bios. Select Cdrom as first boot device. Then
insert your WinXP CD and follow the instructions for new
install. ( Not Upgrade ) You can create partitions and format from there.

It sounds like you've already got a 20 GB partition on a 20 GB drive.
Windows cannot resize a partition without erasing all of your data.

If I understand you correctly, you want to resize your 20 GB partition
to 15 GB and create a new 5 GB partition for another OS installation.
To do this while preserving your data, you'll need a third party
utility like PartitionMagic.
