how to organise start menu - programs into groups

could someone tell me easily how I organise the start menu programs, i.e. if
I want to group all applications under "applications". Thanks

Right-click the Start button, then click Explore. You'll see the Start
folder and that it contains a Programs folder. That is where you can easily
organize your startup shortcuts. Just don't do anything with the
Start\Programs\Startup folder.

Thanks but when I look as you suggest Publisher is in Applications, however
on the start, programs it sits on its own! I'm sure you can move it within
this area and not via explorer just not sure how (copy then delete) help!

My bad. I should have told you that there are two places that house the
Start menu. The one that you get by the method I gave is the one under your
own user profile, whereas most of the Start menu items are under
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start. The Start menu you see on the
desktop is a combination of those two locations.

Sorry about that.

Note that you can simply drag and drop shortcuts in the Start menu, but it
can be tricky and if you're doing a lot of organizing it's better to use
Explorer.

You can right-click and drag any items on the Start menu into existing
folders on the start menu. Just hold the item over the folder you want to
put it in until the folder opens, then slide over and drop (move or copy)
the icon in with the other shortcuts in that folder. You can use the same
method to drag shortcuts from the desktop onto the Start menu, Quick Launch
or other taskbar menus, either copying or moving them.
