How to network printer

Hi.

I have WinXP SP2 and cannot share a printer connected thru lpt1 on my
computer. I selected the printer properties, sharing tab, share this
printer. I do not have a security tab which I do not know why. I am trying
to set it up as a network printer on a Win2K SP4 computer but it does not
find the printer. What am I missing to share my printer? Why do I not have
a security tab in my printer properties?

Thank you.

You don't have a security tab because you have Simple File Sharing enabled,
and from what I've recently learned, you don't need it. Do you have File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks installed? Go to Control Panel |
Network Connections and right click the connection you are using, then on
the general tab make sure it is installed and has a check mark. Also, make
sure you have TCP/IP and Client for Microsoft Networks install as well.

I'm just adding a side note to what RipperT already mentioned. If you have a
firewall installed, also make sure there is an exception for File and
Printer Sharing.

When I came to work this morning I tried to add the printer and there it was.
I guess it takes a while for setting changes to show on other computers.
How long does it usually take other computers to see new network settings?
