Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers (W2K/XP's). Got File- and printersharing loaded? Is
Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (Advanced properties of TCP/IP, tab WINS)?

.
Get ip address's, type: ipconfig /all. Use ping command to
see if you have physical connection to other pc, if that
works then it is probably a protocol prob !!

Check all ip stats via the command:
ipconfig /all

make sure both boxes are on the same subnet mask. Enable
file/printer sharing. Don't set any passwords for a share
currently. Put all PC's on same workgroup/domain.

Also share the hard drive on EACH machine and create a logon on EACH
machine that is identical!

Nope, not a single pop up when I click anything on or in network n-hood...
And they both ping eachother fine..
Windows 2k finds it's self on network, 98se finds.. well entire network and thats it..

You mean type my ip address up here for the world to see??
Meh they both say the same thing..
Ethernet Adapter :
Ip Address...........................24.116.***.***
Subnet Mask........................255.255.255.***
Default Gateway...................24.116.***.***
They both say the same thing..
And yes they ping eachother, they chat on msn with eachother daily... much simpler than yelling from room to room..

How come you're having public IP's on your lanadapters?
If both computers say exactly the same thing, than you have a problem.
Please, do not delete the whole messagethread. I can't even remember what
your problem was.

If they have to network together, they would have to be in the same
IP-subnet.

.....................THEY ARE!!
The only diffrence between the computers when I run ipconfig is the LAST 3 digits of the ip address, the rest are the same!!

Listen Bob,

If you want that somebody is going to help you, you'll have to cooperate. I
already told you that having public IP's on a LAN in not the way to go.
How many computers do you have, what OS is on them, how are they connected,
how do you connect to the internet?

Bob what everyone is trying to tell you is that you have 2 machines
connected to CABLE ONE CABLEONE (NET-24-116-0-0-1)
24.116.0.0 - 24.117.255.255
Cable ONE CBL1-GLOB-1-24-116-124 (NET-24-116-124-0-1)
24.116.124.0 - 24.116.125.255
and that they cannot do what you want to with this configuration!
You need an internal, non public, IP address like 192.168.***.***
192 numbers DO NOT show up on the internet anywhere! They are for
private internal networks ONLY which is what you are trying to do.

The info shows that you are direct to the net with each computer and
NOT to an internal network. IOW you MUST go thru the net to "talk to
each other" not possible to connect them together without having
SERIOUS security issues!
Like if you set it up so you can than I can too! And I don't think
that is what you are interested in.
What most people do is conect the router to the modem and then each
computer to the router. The router being the only connection to the
outside world. If you only have one connection to the router you
either need to buy a new one, they are real cheap right now, or get a
hub and go thru that configuration setup.
You DO have a firewall installed right now, RIGHT??!!
