How to move items from Windows98 to Windows XP Media Center?

Hello There,
First let me thank those who replied my previous query and made my life
easier.Much appreciated. Today I have a different problem.
I have on my desk here at home two PCs, one is an old version of
Windows98, the other one is a Windows XP Media Center and both are in
working order. The Windows98 has a floppy disk hole and a USB socket,
and runs on dial-up. Windows XP Media Center has a floppy disk
downloading facility ,USB sockets and USB 2.0 sockets, and runs on
Broadband. My problem is "How to move items from Windows98 to Windows
XP Media Center?".(Once the job is done the Windows 78 will go to the
scarp yard for sure). I can and I do move items by using floppies but
it is a long job. Any suggestions to facilitate my task?
Thanking you experts in advance,
Regards,
Urban

There are number of options:

1. Zip what to move in multiple Zip files and e-mail them to yourself.
Retrieve e-mail on new system.
2. Create a backup file and store it on a removable storage device (since
you have a USB, you could connect an external drive ... if you can borrow
from someone)
3. There is a cable you can buy to connect the two PC's using the USB ports
and transfer between
4. Create a My Space on the internet that's free (see if your ISP supports
or at least permits creating a web-site ... limited in size), upload from
Win98 and download from WinXP.

There are several choices. Here are a few ways:

1. E-mail the data from the old machine and read it on the new one.

2. Network the two machines and transfer the data over the network.

3. Remove the drive from the old computer and install it temporarily (or
even pemanently) in the new computer.

4. Use floppies and span the larger files over several diskettes using a
file splitting program (or any standard zip utility, which can also do
this).

5. Copy the files to CDs

6. Copy the files to a USB thumb drive.

Which of these is best for you depends on several things: how much data you
have to transfer, whether you plan to keep the old computer, whether you are
willing to spend a few dollars for a thumb drive if you don't have one, etc.
