How to modify registry to show hidden and system files

Guest

I use WinXP Home.

As Administrator, I am currently unable to save any Windows settings.

I want to be able to do the following:

1) Show hidden files and folders.

2) Show protected operating system files.

I can't use Tools > Folder Options > View, because the settings are not
saved on closing the dialog box.

Can anyone tell me how to modify the registry entries to show these files?

Since you have administrative privileges you shouldn't have that problem so
something has probably been damaged. Run "sfc scannow" which checks all the
windows protected files and corrects any that are bad.

scannow completed successfully, and reported no errors.

New information:

I want to cut my losses and abandon the bad Admin account. I have created a
new Admin account (different name) which works fine.

I'll copy the files from "Documents and Settings" (the files, not the
folders!) to the new account.

Thanks for the help anyway.
