How to make the Windows Media audio to play in Windows XP SP2?

I would think that the only reason that might be the case
would be that the encyclopedia audio is linked to a website
and the firewall is blocking the link and without that link
some copyright control is blocking play.
It could be the firewall settings, some limitation on
linking in security, or a copyright control in WMP.

What do you think, Kelly?

The encyclopedia played audio on a Windows XP Home without an internet
connection yesterday evening. I tried to play audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2
without an activated internet connection. This means that the encyclopedia
audio is not linked to a website. The encyclopedia does not play audio in
video too.

For those smart enough to speak more than one language,
perhaps post a translation with the Russian, so we poor
English only people can understand.

Look Jim, our good old buddy Dmitry posts his questions not only in
_microsoft.public.windowsxp.general_ or in
_microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment_, he also posts it in
_microsoft.public.ru.russian.windowsxp_ and right now I am reading this
newsgroup. And if I want to reply on Dmitry's post, I will reply not only in
microsoft.public.ru.russian.windowsxp. Newsgroups
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general &
microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment also will get my post. The
problem is in dimtry's address line.

you are posting.

Thank you for your feature cooperation!

I understand that and have no problem with posts that I
can't read. I do like looking at the Cyrillic letters. But
my suggestion was based on the fact that some help might be
had if everybody understood all of the posts.
Hey, I am not against a free language lesson, I learned most
of what little foreign language skills I have from movies
about Spanish pirates or WWII films.

Have you been in contact with the Russian authors? There is
a program called Jet Audio, which is free and will play
Windows and Real Player formats. You might try that
program, just as a work-around to the problem. It might
help as a troubleshooting device to have more than one
program.

http://www.jetaudio.com/download/

In WMP, Tools/Options>Devices, select speakers and their
properties, etc. See what is shown.
On the security tab, you may want to experiment with
settings.

Are you running the encyclopedia from a CD or the hard
drive?

Did you mean, Oh, come on guys?

Or are you just saying we're common ordinary folks, serfs?

Just to show that some people have more time on their hands
and not much to do,
see http://www.pinette.net/chris/startrek/klindict.html

Everybody just needs to lighten up a little about language
differences, if we are going to bash anybody, let's bash the
French.

The WMP is not used by the encyclopedia for the playback, the encyclopedia
plays in its own interface. Other wave sounds are played by Windows
successfully.

I understand the configuration. This isn't a problem with
WMP or Windows XP, it is a problem with the player built
into the encyclopedia.

Still the issue with SP2 would most likely be some security
issue around running Java or ActiveX controls. You should
try to examine the program to see what is being blocked.

Why is it "a problem with the player built into the encyclopedia" if the
encyclopedia plays audio on another Windows XP Home?
