Hook your old drive up in the system......you did not specify wether it was
PATA or SATA but I am sure you can figure that out.
Then insert your XP CD and start the installation process picking the old
80gb HD as where to install to...........XP will see the other OS and create
the necesary Boot Files for the dual boot on the new 160gb drive....you will
then be given a choice when you boot.
Just remember that ALL of the boot files will be on the 160 drive...without
it you will not be able to boot without a repair.

I'd like to confirm:

1. Install XP on the 1st Hard Drive.
2. Install XP on the 2nd Hard Drive - BUT - use Hard Drive #1 as the
install location. (So only boot files and registry entries are
created on Hard Drive #2).
3. Then you have a single installation holding the XP OS, and a dual
boot, one for each HD, with the minimum boot & registry entries.

??? Is this right?

no
he already has a 160gb with an OS on it......he needs to hook up the 80gb as
a slave drive(PATA) or just hook it up to a SATA connector..if its a SATA
drive.
Then Install XP onto the 80gb drive where there is no OS installed.XP will
do the rest.

I see. So he's doing a full install of XP on each of the drives.

I thought I was pretty clear but for you I will go over it again.......
he has a 160gb HD with an OS on it.
he has an 80gb HD which he will hook up as a slave to the 160 if it is a
PATA drive or on another SATA connector if it is a SATA drive.
He will install XP onto the 80 GB drive only......the 160 already has an OS
on it.
the XP installation will see the other OS on the 160 HD and create the dual
boot when it installs onto the 80gb HD.
XP will change the MBR on the 160gb HD to reflect the fact that he has 2
OS..........ONE ON EACH DRIVE.

If you need further clarification.........please dont hesitate to use
Google....and the search terms "XP DualBoot"

What made it less than clear was the poor quality of the writing. Even
in the answer you've posted here, there are numerous ambiguities that
cause confusion to people without a tech background.

I see that the original poster did not ask any more questions......so I
assume he got it............
I shall remember that when you ask a question to which I know the answer to
write in a more clear, precise and simple manner.
thank you for your feedback
