how to load registry hive offline?

Hi,all

I read from previous thread that I could modify registry values by loading
hive offline. But when I tried to use RegEdit.exe to load system.sav file,
system reported that it wasn't a registry file and could not be loaded.
Should I use a 3rd part tool instead RegEdit.exe to load the hive?

Follow these steps to load the REgistry offline

prequisties
1. U should have a dual boot system both running windows
(OR) Copy the Config folder of the registry to be loaded in another place
you can do it by booting woth the WIN PE

Steps:
1. Boot in the Windows XP machine
2. Launch RegEdit
3. Click on the LOCAL_MACHINE now the File -> Load should be active
3. From the File -> Load Hive
4. Select the file that has to be loaded
5. give the hive name (Do not give the existing folder name
6. Modify the hive and do not forget to unload

Replace the config folder
