How to keep IE6 browser maximized?

Recently, the browser window has begun to open in "normal" mode despite the
properties being set to run "maximized." After clicking the maximize button
on several consecutive openings of the browser, it will remain in
"maximized" mode but will eventually default to "normal" again. Also, any
links that open a second browser window do so in "normal" mode. It used to
open all browser windows "maximized." What's the trick to restore
"maximized" to all browser windows? Thanks for any help.

The settings will be set with the last windows you close.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window last.
