Dear members,
Someone told me that it is possible to install XP professional by DOS way,
could someone please advise me how to do that, and compared with the
conventional way, is it better, or the result is just the same.

You can download and produce a Win98 boot floppy
http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm it will install the CD; install from
there, with winnt.exe

But you have to have SMARTDRV.sys loaded or the install it could take
many many many hours, (just transferring the files from the CD)

Just easier to boot from the CD to install, much faster - same
results.

1. Boot your machine with a Win98 boot disk with
a CD driver (www.bootdisk.com).
2. Using fdisk.exe, create the desired partition(s) and
format them.
3. Run smartdrv.exe.
4. Run \i386\winnt.exe from your WinXP CD.

The method is awkward and it will install WinXP in a FAT32
rather than an NTFS partition. It is only used in cases where
it is not possible to boot the machine from a WinXP CD.
