How to initiate the file transfer from PDA

Hi,

We r developing PPC application that collects data. We also have a
desktop application. So basically, user can then synchronise the data
with main data store by invoking some options from desktop
application. We use XML files as our data store on PPC and we tranfer
them using RAPI to/from desktop. Now, we wish to provide option on the
PPC app (such as "Sync data" or "Import/Export") for initiating this
data transfer. So what are possible options? The connectivity between
PPC & desktop is through USB cradle.
One option I could think of is to have desktop app listening at some
port and then PPC initiating transfer via socket communication.
However, in such case, what IP Address the PPC app should use as it
may be cradled to different desktop system every time? Or is there any
alternative? Does activesync/RAPI offers something else? (I am asking
this because "ActiveSync" provides invoking "Sync" option from the
PPC).
