how to get XP IE to use acrobat reader instead of Acrobat program

When I open a pdf file in windows explorer the "adobe reader program"
launches. But when I open a pdf file in internet explorer the full
acrobat program launches. (I have both loaded on my 'puter)

I want the reader to open a pdf file in both instances as it loads
much quicker than the full program.

I have tried changing the file association but this just seems to
affect the windows explorer application and the internet (IE) still
defaults and uses the full program. I have searched but cannot find
out where to make IE use the reader.

Any help is appreciated.

I can live with the situation as it currently is, but, I don't want
too!!!

Open Acrobat Reader. Go to Edit, Preferences, Internet. Check the option Display PDF in Browser.

This solution above did not work. I even opened Acrobat itself and
"unchecked" the same option hoping that the reader would be able to
"take over" the IE association. But alas, it didn't work.

I am not unwilling to attack the registry. I don't know "what" to do
in the registry but I am willing to try anything to fix this annoying
bug
