When I click delete I am told the file is being used by another program.

db

what kind of movie is it,
because I got one too.

---------------------

perhaps, before
you delete files,

you might want
to do some research
first.

enter that file name
in google and find
out what it is and
how to treat it.

Try to delete it in safe mode and please run your Antivirus to run a
thorough scan.

Where exactly is this file located? Drive? Folder?

Why would you want to delete a system file?
Ntuser.dat is certainly not a video movie.

Where is this file located? If it's in your profile folder that is your
user profile, it's the registry hive that Windows loads when you logon.

"NTUSER.DAT is the running registry file for the user logged onto the
machine. Each user instance creates a new NTUSER.DAT file located in the
profile directory. While the user is logged into the machine you will NOT
be able to copy this file, nor will you be able to copy it after logging the
user off the machine (if administrator) since the file will still be
locked."

Astonishing!

Three people trying to delete a system/registry file,
just because someone calls it a "video movie".

:-((

That is not a video movie file.

It is a user profile file.

You will have several of these.............one for each user, default user
and one for all users.

And one each for Local Service and Network Service

Ntuser.dat is the name of the user specific part of the registry.
Do not delete this file.

Not that I know.

I read ".dat" files with Notepad.
;-)

In my GOM-Player file type ".dat" is called "MPEG Video File",
but that is the only file type I never select.
(maybe OP tried to play ntuser.dat with GOM Player?)

Why doesn't someone just answer the question straight foward, in plain
somple English without trying to be so damn clever and cute? People don't
come here for answers that are like riddles that need to be solved. They are
usually freaked-out because something isn't working and they want it
working the way it should. They come to you for help, and this is what they
get. Some of you are simply a-holes!

The straight forward answer is:
The file ntuser.dat is a system file, don't delete it.

It is *not* a video file. It is a *system* file.

Hi Brian,

Yes I rebooted then retried the delete command. It said the file could not
be deleted because it was in use.
