HOW TO GET RID OF ADOBE PDF ?

I have three companies who download their software into my machine automatically.

One is MICROSOFT who download their updates in the background anytime with my blessings
..
Second is "SYMANTEC protection" who also download their updates in the background which I pay for,

Third is "ADOBE PDF" that is needed many times to read pages that come in PDF but now I want to get rid of ADOBE but it won't let me.

Adobe lately installed a filter and other things. One of their filter got a hold of one of my important programs and wouldn't let it open. Worse, I try to open that program and it opens almost up to completion and then the PDF filter get in front of it and both freeze. It can't be closed with the X and must be closed with the "control-alt-delete" and even after invoking this powerful tool windows come back and tell me it can close this program and I should press "close now"

I went to "ADD REMOVE" and removed that Adobe filter but it wasn't enough. I tried to delete the entire PDF version 7.08 but it can't be removed. The uninstall program tells me there is no such program but it is there and working as good as ever.

I got from their site a newer version, PDF version 8.02 and tried to install it, assuming that new program will erase or correct the situation but it didn't do it.

So I have a PDF program that is -NOT- on the add remove program yet it works and causes other to freeze.

Where to go to delete this ADOBE PDF?

How much trouble would it be for you to re-install Windows XP after
backing up all important and critical data, text, word, picture, etc.
files. IOW, how well and/or comfortable do you feel about editing the
Windows Registry in order do to a total deletion of Acrobat Reader by
manual means? This is the lesson from allowing companies, including
Microsoft, to download and install updates automatically, without the
user knowing or understanding what they are.

All three allow you to change settings to not automatically download to your system.
Which program did Adobe prevent from opening ?
What was the name of the Adobe filter ?

Hi Janet

Try the Windows Installer Cleanup utility first: you might be lucky and
find this does the trick for you. If you go to this Microsoft document:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
there is a link to download the utility (just above the "contents of the
readme file" heading).

If that doesn't work you are probably stuck with manually removing all
references to the Adobe Reader before you can reinstall it. Many people
seem to be having this problem; there is lots of discussion in the Adobe
Reader forum and some good advice here:

Good luck! Let us know how you get on.
