How to enable modem Ring Pattern Setup in XP Pro?

Kevin

I have an older Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc.
SupraSonic 336V+ Plug & Play modem, and, although I know
the modem supports Distinctive Ring, the Device Manager
modem Properties > Advanced > Change Default Preferences
dialog offers no (Distinctive) Ring Pattern Setup.
Is this a modem driver-related issue? (I think not - I've
tried the XP Pro supplied driver; 'Modem.sys', and,
another one I got from DriverGuide.com; 'mdmsupv9b.inf',
which still winds up being 'Modem.sys' - neither results
in a Ring Pattern Setup tab or options in the Change
Default Preferences dialog),
or, is it an O/S limitation/component not present issue?
Can anyone offer me a little help please?
Thanks.

Windows XP does not natively support Distinctive Ring. Check the
support website of the manufacturer of your modem for possible
Windows XP compatible software that may offer this feature.

Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. was purchased by S3 (S3
Incorporated bought Diamond Multimedia in 1999. S3
changed it's name to SONICblue, Inc. in 2000.) which was
in turn aquired by Best Data Products - to the best of my
knowledge.
The bottom line is I have no hope in hell of getting any
XP compatible software for this modem (I've tried).

Q. Why would Microsoft discontinue native support
for 'Distinctive Ring'? Most everybody still uses their
modems for faxing and 'Distinctive Ring' is intrinsic to
discriminating between voice, data and fax calls.
Is there any way to add support for 'Distinctive Ring'
through a 3rd party vendor (the way Java can be added to
XP)?
Anyways, thanks for posting to my Q.

Yves ... driver support is not the issue here ... the
driver supports Distinctive Ring - it is XP that does not
natively support it, as Carey Frisch pointed out.
Can the XP native support aspect be addressed?
Anyone? Anyone?
Thanks for posting though.
