How to display long search query

I entered this query as a search: date taken after 2007-Apr-23 and date
taken before 2007-may-5 (referring to photos). it worked as expected, and I
saved it (as a search folder). (Natural language search is turned on but it
doesn't matter to this question.)

How do I see the entire stored query? (eg., to modify it) When I open the
folder and open the 'search pane', 'advanced', all I see is part of the query.

(I love the potential of virtual folders!)

do you mean this: While searching, you could click into the address bar,
where the whole query should be (e.g., starting with
"search-ms:displayname=Search%20Results%20in%20Indexed%20Locat...")

Here's what I did:

1) Open Windows Explorer and browsed to the folder that I wish to be the
root of my search.
2) Right-clicked Search, opened "Advanced Search", and entered my query.
3) "Save Seach" and named it something friendly to me (replacing a very long
unattracitve default name that included the query string).

When I click on that saved-search folder, I see the results, which is great.
When I select 'Search Tools', 'Search pane', then 'Advanced search', I
expect to see (and be able to edit) my original query, but I only see part of
it (one phrase).

I expect to routinely have multiple-phrase queries.

I'm wondering, how do I get it to display all of the query string?

(I'm using Home Premium, auto-updated.)

Hello,

you could hit "Search" again, and then click into the address bar, and the
query should be displayed, and then stop the search. The old search results
should be saved anyway (as far as I can see).

Is the 'address bar' the field right of the back-arrow, at the top of the
Explorer window, with the folder-path information? When I open my search
folder, that field contains my root name and directories (separated by
down-arrow icons) and finally the name I gave the saved search when I saved
it.

I don't see the full search query string anywhere, even when I open the
'Advanced Search' pane.

When I originally saved the search, the default filename was the full query
text with an extension of .search-ms, but of course I don't want a filename
that huge and unfriendly, so I entered something meaningful. (You're not
suggesting, I presume, that I use the filename to record the query string!?!)

I'm using the Classic view, but it's the same, as far as I can tell, in the
Aero view.

Note that just about any real-life query would involve more than one phrase,
so there ought to be a way to view and edit them.

Is there a way to view or edit all phrases of a multi-phrase saved-search
query?

Hello,

the filename thing would have been what I tried to say .
In your case, I'd copy the query into the Tag field which you can use when
you save the search.
When needed, you could copy the query out of the tag into the search field
and change it there. The tag is usually displayed in the details pane at the
bottom of the window.
This would be a simple solution.
