Hello,

I need to disconnect my network connection (internet connection) at 7am.
I want only to disconnect the network and not the computer.
I am using internet by cable.
I am using Windows XP Professional.

How can I do this?
I was looking in windows help and also for some kind of application but
I wasn't able to find it.

Thank You,
Miguel

Create a Scheduled Task to run IPCONFIG /RELEASE <Adapter>

Open a Command Prompt window and enter IPCONFIG /? for all the command line options.

Hi ... If you go to your Control Panel and select either Network and
Internet Connections or Network Connections , It depends on which type you
have your Control Panel set at , Category View or Classic View ... If its
Classic View just double click on Network Connections , Then right click
Local Area Connection , Now if you select disable it will stop your internet
connection , But What i would do is instead of is select "Create Shortcut"
this will place an internet Icon on your desktop which is easier to perform
, All you need to do then is just right click on the Icon and select disable
, and when you want to be connected again just right click the Icon again
and select enable ...

Now for Category View , Its done this way ... Select Network and Internet
connections , Then select >>> Network Connections ... Then right click Local
Area Connection , Now if you select disable it will stop your internet
connection , But What i would do is instead of is select "Create Shortcut"
this will place an internet Icon on your desktop which is easier to perform

Hi Miguel,
you can schedule a task:

UI;
How To Schedule Tasks in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308569

Command Line;
How To Use the AT Command to Schedule Tasks
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313565

with a batch file, that would contain:
devcon disable HW ID

for example:
devcon disable PCI\VEN_10B7

You can find devcon utility at:

My computer, monitor, cable modem, etc are all powered through a surge
protector. Each item has its own on/off switch as well as a master on/off.
When I want to disconnect from the network I simply toggle the cable modem
power OFF. When I want to reconnect I switch the power back ON. It takes
about a minute for it to renegotiate the internet connection and then works
fine.

I haven't had any problems doing this. Anyone here know if this is "hard"
on the modem?

Nah, until I got stuch with this danged "internal", I always did
the same thing you do. Long's it doesn't confuse your system,
not much else can go wrong.

Some people pull the phone plug, but that was always too
inconvenient for me. Now I'm on a UPS with both
protected/unprotected output, everythings' plugged into it, and
have a switch on the phone lines, so it's Shut Down, disable the
UPS, unplug the UPS & throw the switch on the phone lines - let
the lightning come! Which, anymore, is about the only time I
turn things off.
