How to disable explorer from Start->Programs?

Hi,

I'm deploying XP SP2 to a large community, and the build image is configured
to use the 'Classic' start-menu. I have things pretty well locked down now,
but the users can still launch Explorer by double clicking on
Start->Programs.

Surely there must be a way to inhibit Explorer launching from double clicks
on folders? Anyone know how to do this ?

Thanks, Peter Moreton

I'm not sure what explorer has to do with classic start menu....or why you
wouldn't want users to be able to launch it (it's pretty much necessary that
they be able to run explorer) but you might wish to post in
microsoft.public.windows.group_policy for more help. Mention whether you're
using AD or not.

Because this feature is only available in the classic start menu environment
or why you
wouldn't want users to be able to launch it (it's pretty much necessary that

I don't agree; why should a user of a locked down XP workstation ever need
explorer? - they just launch and use line-of-business applications. The
environment in question environment is XP workstations in retail shops. You
would not wish to reveal the explorer GUI to a shop environment!

Then disable the Start menu and Run entirely. Put icons to the few
programs they need to run on the Desktop and disallow users from
running anything but those programs. Do all this with Group Policy. As
Lanwench suggested, post any questions you may have about Group Policy
in this newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.group_policy

Then you need a kisok PC config, such as internet cafes use. See Malke's
reply, and google.
