How to disable "Are you sure you want to run this"?

OK I'm not ignorant of computers, I run XPSP2 and have been working with MS
stuff since DOS2.0, even done some Unix admin. However, my exposure to
Vista is limited.

The girlfriend bought a new dual core notebook that came with Vista. Within
2 months the keyboard crapped out and so we lost the beast for a couple
weeks; but that's HW. Outside of putting Office 2003 and Symantec's Norton
360 on it, I've had maybe an hour or two on it.

How do you disable the blasted "Are you sure you want to run this
application?" If I didn't want to run it; I wouldn't have launched it.

And for a dual core machine with basically nothing on it; geez, it's slower
than molasses in January. My 1.8GHz Pentium can run circles around it. Again
thought that's probably a matter of adding RAM.

Pointers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Norton does not help re: speed. It is a resource hog.

You are far better off uninstalling it, and using Avast 4 Free home editon.

Right click the applications executable > click Properties > Security (tab)

check the box that says 'Run with Administrator priviledges'. Its not

recommended you disable UAC, you can but temporarily for things like
installing applications.

If you are getting lots of UAC prompts, it's likely you are running old
software, not designed for Vista.

I recommend you check the manufacturers' websites for Vista-compatible
upgrades.

If you run software designed (or updated) for Vista, UAC prompts are quite
rare.

I strongly recommend you don't turn off UAC. It undermines much of the
security advances in Vista. My software is all up to date and UAC prompts
are quite rare.

Personally, I'm very pleased my computer warns me when something that might
have security implications is about to run.

That is a very good question. I have actually referred friends to
vistax64.com only to have them come back to me the next week saying
that they have 32bit vista so they did not even go to that site. Sort
of a bit of a mental roadblock for a lot of peoples, I guess

Its misleading, but it does contain helpful information for both platforms.
Probably not the best name since Vista x64 is not as ubiquitous as Vista
x86.

That is a shame. The site is dedicated to 64 bit Vista, but just about
everything will apply to both 32 bit and 64 bit Vista. The tutorials
will state if they are not for both versions.

I will see what I can do to help make this more clear on the site.
