How to Delete Search Assistant from Registry

J

jricee

I am having problems using Internet Explorer. I cannot
use the back button. I get an error message and it shuts
down. I recently used Ad-aware and it removed many
parasites from my systems but this problem remains. One
file called Powerscan remains but appears to be empty.

I went into the registry and searched 'powerscan' and
found files listed under a registry key folder
titled "Search Assistant". Files contained in there are
spywarefile.exe, powerscan, gator,
aws*, /programfiles/internetexplorer/IEXPLORE.exe, and
about 10 of my files.

My question is Can I delete this whole folder or is
this "Search Assistant" a necessary file?

Thank you.

You still have scumware. Running just one program to clean your
machine is not going to fix everything.

First. Make sure of these settings and nothing will install without you
answering YES. (Except what may install as part of some other software.)
Don't click YES if you don't know/trust the source.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
Make sure both of these are NOT checked.

Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer
components if a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or
perform a particular task.]]

 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web
page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.]]

Apply | OK
