My excel data contains three digit combination on each cell. To find selected
two digit on a three digit cell data, I need to color font or shade due to my
thousands cell datas. Can this be possible? Please provide detailed info.

Hi ghinzrey,

Can't understand the question. Can you make it a bit clearer what you want
to do including a sample of data etc.

Hi,

Suppose your 3 digit number are located in the range C1:M1000, and the 2
digit number you want to mark is in cell A1 then

To conditionally format your cell(s):

In 2003:
1. Select the cell you want to format
2. Choose Format, Conditional Formatting
3. Choose Formula is from the first drop down
4. In the second box enter the formula:
=OR(VALUE(LEFT(C1,2))=$A$1,VALUE(RIGHT(C1,2))=$A$1)
5. Click the Format button
6. Choose a color on the Patterns tab (or any available option)
7. Click OK twice.

In 2007:
1. Highlight all the cells on the rows you want formatted
2. Choose Home, Conditional Formatting, New Rule
3. Choose Use a formula to determine which cell to format
4. In the Format values where this formula is true enter the following
formula:
=OR(VALUE(LEFT(C1,2))=$A$1,VALUE(RIGHT(C1,2))=$A$1)
5. Click the Format button and choose a format.
6. Click OK twice

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,

Good day, Mr. Shane...

You've got it right and it's working but just on pairs. How about if the
numeral are in between, e.g. cell data 374 and want to shade as 3and 4 are
in, which I'm looking at.

Thanks.
