I cannot figure out how to change one of my folders previously named
"Barbara" under DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS (between ALL USERS and DEFAULT USER.
When I try, I get a warning - "Barbara is a windows system folder and cannot
be changed" I'm sure it CAN be changed but so far I've had no luck. HELP!

Hi,

You are incorrect in your assumption - it is a system folder and you cannot
change the name. You can change the name used for the account, but you
cannot change the name of the folder that houses the user profile under any
conditions. To create a folder with a different name, you need to create a
user account with the preferred name, then copy the old one into it.

I read your post, however, I am still wondering if there is another solution.
A few months ago, my computer totally crashed. My OS is Microsoft Windows
XP Pro, SP2. When my computer guru came to restore it, I asked him to please
not put my name anywhere on the computer. Apparently he was listening, or he
forgot, because when I got my computer back, my name was scattered all over
the place! He managed to get my name removed from everywhere except
C:\Documents and Settings\my name
We did a search in the registry (using find) and discovered my full name is
in the registry in probably a hundred or more places. Obviously, originally,
he did not enter my name in a hundred or more places. There should be ONE
place in the registry where he can go in and change my name and it would
change my name in all the other places as well. Can you please tell me where
that would be (in the registry)?
Thanks! I hope I'm posting in the right place. If not, I apologize.

You are making an assumption that is invalid. If it's in the registry in a
hundred places, then it will need to be changed or removed in a hundred
places. They may have been picked up from a common point, but once there
they are there - you can't just change the point of origin.

BTW, this has naught to do with the response I gave in this thread, which
was in regard to changing the name of a user profile folder.
