How to change to offline files when connected to the LAN ?

Hi
I'm using offline files snychronization from Windows XP to synchronise "My Documents" and when I'm traveling I always have the problem that when I connect my pc on a remote location with a slow WAN link, "My Documents" are always "online" and it's very difficult to work with it over this slow WAN link
Is there any way to work in Windows XP in a "cache" modus as it works on Outlook 2003 ? Or at least have the option on startup to remain offline also when I'm connected to the LAN
The snychronization of "My Documents" is set over a Domain GPO
Thanks in advance for any ideas

If you run GPEDIT.MSC, and go to:
Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
Network
Offline Files

The final item is Configure Slow link speed.

Check out the explanation for this item. I don't have experience with using
this parameter, but it is clearly designed for the issue you are seeing.

It works, but isn't very configurable... XP SP2 is set to make
massive improvements in this area.

Thanks guys for the info but, I already tried using GPO's
to detect the connection, unfortunetly our wan lines are
fast enough that I always remain "online" with pour
performance.
Jeffrey: I have installed winxp sp2 beta on my laptop,
where can I found some documentation about this ?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

If I understand what I am seeing at KBALERTZ and on the KB, this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q811525

describes an available PSS-hotfix (which you can ask for today--free, since
they consider it a bug) which changes the behavior as described in the
article.

This change will (is?) be incorporated into SP2, if I understand it
correctly.

KBALERTZ has this same article number linked to a changed title describing
SP2 functionality. looks like that article isn't released yet.

It is if you look for it on google... I'll hunt for it again... :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. I have checked on my laptop (win xp
with SP2) if the described registry entries are set as the
article that you send me, but they are not. So I will
supose that on this beta that I got this patch is not yet
included.
Anyway I will ask for the patch and see what happens.

Thanks again and best regards,

Berni

I'd ask whether the patch is appropriate in the beta groups--I'd be a bit
leery of using it with the beta bits.
