how to change an install directory location?

OK, So I didn't read the installation manual when I tried to install a game
from CD ~ my bad. When I found out the install failed, I cracked the manual
and found that I had to change the directory path instead of taking the
default when installing on Vista. No problem, or so I thought. I
uninstalled the failed program, deleted temp files, rebooted, etc. When I
tried to do a frest install, Vista no longer gives me the option to change
paths from the default location. Any assistance will be a Godsend! The
software company, PhantomEFX, has not yet replied to my cry for help.
Thanks....

It's not Vista that isn't giving you the option, it's the game.
First, if you didn't do this when you tried to install, try again but if the
game offers a manual or custom install option, choose that as opposed to
letting its installer make all the choices.

If it doesn't give you that option, first, find out if the game has that
option, check the manual. If it does but it isn't offering it, try using
System Restore to take you back to a time before you first installed the
game. System Restore is meant to only restore your settings and registry
but be sure to back up your data as a precaution.

Then, do the restore and try to install the game and see if it then offers
you the option of a custom or manual install.

Michael ~ your expertise rawks! and System Restore is not as scary as I
thought, 'didn't know it did it's own restore points, thought it was all user
initiated(should've read the manual on that, too)! Thx a bunch ~ Sincerely

Thank you, Noaim, for the reply - I am the admin on this machine - but Sys
Restore ultimately solved my problem. I'm still learing Vista and rely
heavily on my friends and peers in the community. Sincerely & keep up the
excellent work,
