How to burn image to the Flash drive

P

Peter Afonin

Hello,

Is there a program that would allow to burn the bootable ISO image into the
SDHC card or flash drive?

My notebook has an option in BIOS to boot from the flash drive, but I cannot
figure out how to create it. It seems that the regular CD burner programs do
not do this.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

booting from usb is
possible with external
hard drives that connect
via the usb.

another method is to
boot via a usb flash
drive.

the specialty files are
provided by hp, the
printer makers.

you can do a live search
for "how to make a bootable
usb" for the details.

however, the bootable
usb once it is formatted
with the special program
and has the special boot
files installed,

is of little use for anything
else but booting.

but you can reformat the
stick to remove the specialty
files above.

You really need to format your drive and start over with a clean install
of windows. That way everything will be working.

As you can see, he's so unethical that he's spent the money to get an
account with my provider and is using the same Usenet client I use, but
he's still exposed himself.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Perhaps I didn't make myself quite clear.

I have already an ISO image that I need to "burn" to the SDHC card or flash
drive pretty much like I burn the CD or DVD. In this particular case I need
to create a TrueCrypt boot rescue disk in case there is something wrong with
encryption. I have already an image file, I just need to "burn" it to the
alternative drive rather than CD. So this is not the same as creating just a
bootable flash drive.

Thanks.

PEtoUSB will do this for BartPE, WinPE, and possibly Windows on flash. I
don't know if it will work for TrueCrypt. As isn't TrueCrypt Linux or
DOS based? If so, you need the tools for those OS.

Thank you. I've checked PEtoUSB - not sure how it would work with ISO
images. Should I just extract the files from ISO image to the filder and
then use PEtoUSB to create a bootable flash drive?

No, PEtoUSB only works with ISO images. It only works as far as I know
(to make bootable anyway) for Windows v5 boot or higher. I don't believe
TrueCrypt uses the Windows v5 boot routine, but rather Linux or DOS
based. If this is true, you need to use a DOS or Linux utility to do
this. They too exists.

I've tried today - could not figure out how this PEtoUSB works. It asked me
about the path to the PE Installation (I have no idea what is this). I've
read the instructions - there is no word there about ISO images.

That is weird Peter. I thought for sure it grabbed it from an ISO. Oh
gosh! It *isn't* PEtoUSB, it's PE2USB that grabs an ISO image. Sorry
Peter.

Thank you, Bill. I'll try this today.
