How to block suspicious email messages

Ken Cavanaugh

Each day I receive several messages telling me to update
the latest Microsoft security patch. When I log onto
Microsoft Download service, I find there are no downloads
that I need to make. I conclude the notices are bogus. How
can I block them from coming on my machine?

What I do is use message rules in OE to dump them to my deleted box where I
delete them all at once. My rule has Microsoft in the sender field and has
an attachment.Your ISP may let you do that at their mail server. Usually
they have instructions at their website. If you decide to use message rules,
I recommend that you also create one that is first in the list to protect
emails from those people you really want email from. I do that and have
those messages highlighted with a different color and tell the message rule
to not process any more rules for those senders. --- Steve

Enable your ISP's spam filter option, if they have it.

Get some anti-spam software, like SpamPal (which really should be called
SpamNemesis).

Define some rules in your e-mail client.
