how to add shading to the numbering of headings?

Hi,

how do I add shading to the background of the numbering of my headings in
word 2003. Note: not the text, just the numbers!

Hello-

One option is to select just the text to be shaded, go to Format>Borders and
Shading, and select what you want to use.
