How stop folder syncing on Outlook03_SP2 to a POP3 server(W2kSP4)

Subject pretty much says it all.... other than.... I tried the Help menu's
link to a suggestion that I stop the task, however, syncing folders does not
apear in task list..

I'm confused, as POP3 doesn't sync anything. It downloads. What exactly is
it you are referring to?

My point exactly.... Whenever I click on "Send Receive" for the first time
after log in to the computer, or Outlook does its normal first time on start
up routine check of the POP3 server, a small ICON appears in the lower right
hand bar on the screen saying..."syncing folders" ( or some such). While
this icon is present, 30 secs to a min or so, OUTLOOK runs at a snails pace
taking a very long time to download messages.
