I have a HP 712C Deskjet printer, purchased in December 1998. Does
anyone have an idea how long HP will continue to sell print cartridges for
it?

Because, as people dispose of their older printers, less and less of
them will exist, and with that the market for the carts will drop, to
the point where there will not be enough of a market to make it
worthwhile to set up a run of carts for the old printers.

HP still makes cartridges for printers introduced decades ago. The #45
cartridge is used in more HP printers than any other, and there is a rather
huge installed base of printers that use the #23 color cartridge as well. I
would be truly amazed if HP were not still offering these products a dozen
years from now.

HP still makes printers using the #45 black cartridge. You can assume
it'll be around for a very long time.

The color may be more iffy, but many models used the #23, so it should
be around for quite awhile.
