How does Verify Hyperlinks feature work?

Hello, all,

I've recently been playing with the Verify Hyperlinks feature in the
Reports view. It has found several broken links, and that's great.

But it seems that the feature suffers from a couple of problems I can't
figure out.

1. Why does it stop on certain links it's verifying and just never move
on after it says "Verifying"? A few times I've waited over five minutes
on my cable connection with no response anywhere at all.

2. Why does it stop on URLs I know for absolutely sure are good, such as
http://yahoo.com?

Also, if there's something obvious I'm missing altogether because this
is new to me, like maybe something about cookies or some other settings,
just go ahead and let me know that too.

Thnaks for any information you can supply.

P.S. I use FP 2003 on a Windows XP Pro computer, with a cable
connection.

Some web masters have their servers set to deny ping commands.
FrontPage uses the ping command to verify hyperlinks. If the server is set to deny them they will
show as broken.

To see how this works, open a command window and enter: ping www.yahoo.com and then press enter.

Then enter: ping www.grc.com and press enter.
grc will show as not found because the web master ( Steve Gibson ) has set the server to deny ping
requests.
( he's going to shoot me for using his server as an example )
