How does the shortcut find the executable image?

A

Academic

Exploring All Users/Start Menu I get to a shortcut file and right click and
select properties.

The resulting form, on the Shortcut tab, list the target type as
"Application"

But the Target location is blank!

What is going on?

How does it find the executable image?

Thanks

There is no path in the "Start In" line to the application?

The actual filename would help.. someone might know whether it uses
CLSID or other means to call the function.

The default Office Application Shortcuts are built that way. Someone in
the Office groups may know the actual method used to trigger the exe file.

So why were you saying that there is nothing in Target. There are many
shortcuts in windows and many applications make the shortcuts that way like
Adobe products. I don't know how this works but it works. Take an example :
Open properties of a shortcut
Delete everything in its Target and Start in boxes.
Click OK
Reopen properties
What you see ??
You will see a grayed out Target box with My Computer in it
