How do you set this query up to show results asked for?

I have set up a table that reflects a math lesson with 30 problems. Each
problem has 3 fields to it that describe what type of problem it is (i.e.
linear measurement, inches, fractions).

Another table after selecting the student and lesson contains the students
data on which problem were missed and why they were missed (not attempted,
wrong calculation....)

What I would like to try to do is select a student, and see which type of
problems they are missing and why.

Any ideas on getting started with coding the query to search for whatever is
requested ( measurement problems, time, missing variable.....)

I'm not sure how you set up your lesson/survey/quiz/test, but will point you
to a well-designed tool that may give you more ideas ...
