How do you keep a required space between symbols and words?

When writing legal documents I have to have a space between the section
symbol and code number such as
11 U.S.C. § 350(b). How do I keep the symbol next to the number with a
space between them without it wrapping around and splitting it over two lines
of text?

Use a non-breaking space: IIRC, Control+Shift+Spacebar & iis also available
in the Insert> Symbol dialog, Special Characters.
