How do I Verify Installation of HP 4L on XPpro PC

V

Vince

Hello:

I need some help.

Does the fact that the print queue shows the 4L in "Ready" status
really mean that the hardware driver is installed ?

Device Manager shows data related to my HP7350, but I have not seen
anything relating to a HP 4L printer.
Where should the 4L be listed within Device Manager? or elsewhere ?

I am not sure that the 4L is plug n play at the time that I got my
Dell PC (JAN 2005). I have been using my HP7350 until recently
replacing the toner cartridge in the HP 4L. The HP4L was working fine
prior to XPpro other than an empty toner cartridge.

How can I confirm that I do in fact have the proper printer driver
installed?

Is the correct/latest driver the lj632en.exe file for the HP 4L? I
have downloaded that file from the HP.com website to my computer which
is a standalone non-networked/shared unit.

Thanks.

Did you run the downloaded .exe file?
is the printer listed under start > Settings> printers and faxes?

if not then you have not installed the drivers.
if it is right click >properties>advanced and look at the driver its using.

Hope that helps,
Martin

Open Notepad and type a message. Any message will do. Now print it. Does the
printer print? You've got a driver.

Print a test page. If that prints correctly then you have a usable
driver installed for the printer.

To print a test page open the Printers group in Control Panel.
Right-click on the icon for the 4L and select Properties then click on
the Print test page button.

Good luck

No, have not as yet run the lj632en.exe file.
Yes, the 4L printer is listed (and is now set as my default printer).

The Advanced tab Driver shows HP Laserjet 4L.

A self-test Test page prints okay. Attempt to print a text page via
Control Panel per your instructions; Did not print.

I will delete this HP 4L and attempt a new install process.

Thanks all.
