how do i use out of office assistant with an IMAP account?

after switching from an Exchange server email account, to an IMAP account,
'out of office assistant' no longer works. is there a trick to get it to
work, or was it an exchange server option only?

Exchange only. Otherwise you have to spoof it with an autoreply rule (don't
know if that works w/IMAP)
