how do I use docbook xml schema in word

I am trying to use the docbook xml schemas in Word 2003, but it will not
allow me to use the "http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace" for xml.xsd in the
schema library, which means the dependancies won't flow through. Therefore I
am unable to use the xml editing facility of word to its fullest.

Word's use of XML is about incorporating XML data within a Word document -
the feature can't be used to provide a structured document editor, which I
think it what you are after.

There are is a (pricey, IIRC) tool that does use Word to front-end
structured editing, and various conversion tools which might be of interest,
depending where you are coming from and where you are trying to go.

I am able to associate the Simplified Docbook schema with a new document in
word, which gives me the sort of structured markup I am after, but I am
unable to associate the Docbook set of schemas in the same way. Word throws
an error message saying "Type 'notation.class' is either not declared or not
a simple Type". However notation.class is declared as a simple Type within
the schema.
