how do i type spaces at the beginning of the 2nd line of a paragra

I want to be able to type spaces at the beginning of a line of the second or
subsequent lines of a paragraph without using tabs or hitting "enter" to
create a new paragraph. How can i just get Word to type a space when i hit
spacebar, instead of trying to think for me that "i wouldn't really want a
space in that place"?

Don't do this. Word is not a typewriter. Using spaces to align text or set
up indents just doesn't work, and it makes other features misbehave. Word is
right: you really *don't* want a space in that place.

By the sounds of it you want a 'hanging indent' (first line starts at the
margin, all subsequent lines are indented) -- set this up on the Format >
Paragraph dialog.

As Jezebel said, not a good idea, but if you HAVE to, you can press
SHIFT+ENTER at the end of the line above. This will move you to the next
line using a "Soft" line break, which will allow you to type some spaces.
Please keep in mind that there really are better ways to get what you are
trying to accomplish!

By the way, what is it you are trying to do? Maybe that will help us
provide better possibilities.
