I want to type in mobile phone numbers that start with a zeio but when I do,
the zero is omitted - how do I stop this from happening?

Start with a single quote. It will not display, but will cause the number to
be treated as text.
Another way is to format the cells as text before entering the numbers.

If you want them to be formatted as numbers, select the cells/col where the
mobile nos are to go and go to Format Cells | Number | Custom and set up a
format "mask" in the "Typ" box on the RHS with a leading zero. For example,
if (like in the UK) mobile nos are of the format 07xxx xxx xxx, enter the
mask as 0#### ### ### [with a space between the groups]. The number will
then be formatted as you wish.
