How do I turn off "replace" feature

I used the replace feature and now I cannot get it to "turn off". In the past if I closed the document and re-opened it, the replace feature would be off. I have even deleted the document and created a new one and the replace feature is still on.

Are you talking about "overtype" If so, either double-click the OVR at the
bottom middle of your screen or press the INSERT key to turn it off.
