How Do I Turn Off Folder Sniffing?

I can't stand this folder sniffer that auto changes the way I have my
folders setup. The OS keeps detecting what it thinks is the folder's main
use and changing the columns to suit its determination. Is there a way to
turn off folder sniffing?
