How do I turn off 'automatically mark messages read'

Express has a 'options' option to turn off automatically marking messages
read, or setting a time stamp for it, but I can't find an option to disable
this in Outlook, any ideas how to get this to stop ??

in outlook 2003, right click in the gray border of the preview pane or (all
versions) tools, options, other, preview /reading pane options.
