I can't stop the autotext date from coming up so whenever I date my letters
like this:-

17 May 2005

I end up with

17 May 2005-05-17
when I press enter.

Please help!!! How do I get rid of this?

Press the spacebar or ESC before pressing Enter or Tab.

I know that I can do it that way, it just means a whole load of faff on when
I've got my text set to 'justified'. I want to stop the autotext from
appearing at all whether I press enter or not. It must be in the system
somewhere where I can delete it, but it's not in any of the autotext or
autocorrect windows

If you find a way to fix this, there are thousands of people who would like
to know what it is!

I had this problem in another software package. Try going to start/control
panel/regional options. Go to the date tab and choose what you want as your
default. It might work?

I seldom type a date anymore. I have createdate fields in my letterhead and
in other forms that call for today's date. See
http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the different
kinds of datefields and how to format them.

I also assigned an AutoText entry for a createdate field in the format that
I use (d MMMM yyyy) and assigned that to the key combination Alt-D.

The problem is that there are enough people out there who type dates in the
format that Word is adding that they would be annoyed if Word took the
AutoComplete away for them. It ought to be able to sense that the date info
is already there, but can't.

However, you can turn off the auto complete.
