How do I start up MS-DOS in WXP?

Did you try it from the Repair Console? It's likely to work.

I did indeed, but in vain. I think I'm going to have to save all my
files and re-install XP. As much as I despise the person who created
rqrrr.dll, I still take my hat off to him, as he's got the better of
Bill Gates, Microsoft and crew. He's thought of absolutely everything.
No mean feat!

Thanks for trying to help nonetheless. Much appreciated.

Noone here mentioned NTFS4DOS Personal which is a DOS boot disk that
offers full read and write access to NTFS volumes under DOS. You can just
boot to it, CD to wherever you need to go, and delete there.

It's in the d/l section @ http://www.free-av.com/

That is, if you think you can trust it.

I also don't think anyone mentioned taking the HD out and slaving it into
another PC and deleting it that way.

So you must not be too careful afterall, since you did somehow get this
infection.

And in 6 years, I've never done a system restore. This PC was upgraded to
XP on day 2, has had hardware upgraded, saw tons of s/w installed and
uninstalled, and had only a few select Windows updates (like the RPC
bug). Now it's only up to SP1 level. Nary a problem at all with anything,
and no viruses or spyware ever been activated on this system.

It's pretty easy to steer clear of most vulnerabilities....

1) Don't use IE, use another browser like FF or Opera.
2) Don't use OE.
3) And don't execute e-mail attachments
