how do i share the files between the two machines?

P

peter

i am using two pcs which are both using winxp.

I used the wizard to share the broadband connection which requires a use
name and pass.

After that, both machines can go online but how do i share the files between
the two machines?

I tried sharing the folders but they are only listed in the local machines
and in fact, this method worked in anotheir of pcs which use a cable modem
which requires no use name and pass.

Another interesting thing is that when i click the name of another pc, it
asks me for a user name and password but I still cant enter with the same
user name and password ( left blank because the user accounts are not
password protected ) for the pc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Peter,

Start by making the 2 computers visible to each other, work on permissions
later.

First check for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for registry setting
restrictanonymous.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, and we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

Thanks a lot but the trouble is that only the name of the other machine is
listed and the folders are not even if i have enabled sharing!

The method worked in other machines but does not seem to work in this pair!

Besides, i cant enter the listed machine even if i supply the user
name --------------- i dont have to supply the user name for those pairs
using cable modems.

I have disabled all firewalls and "my network places" are still blank!

Sorry about the registry settings because i dont know how .

Thanks a lot.

Peter,

So what do you want to do? Did you read any of the articles? The problem isn't
going to go away on its own.

Take a look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, anyway.

Thanks .

I did read the articles

<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>

but dont seem to be able to solve the problem

For example, I cant find the program Lan , and if i type command window
into ie, i dont see anything special.

Thanks a lot but the articles are just too difficult to understand . Is it
possible to set up a connection from scratch ?

Peter,

Did you open a command window?
# Start
# Run
# Type "cmd" and hit Enter?

It's possible to set up a connection from scratch, yes.
# It's more complicated, though.
# If you don't try and figure out your current problem, you'll not know what to
do when it happens again.

Your problem is not unique. Dozens of folks have had your problem before, and
have been helped here. You simply have to read the articles, and follow the
instructions. And ask questions. Just don't say "the articles are just too
difficult to understand" and give up.
