How Do I Set Up two 98's to share broadband the right way?

Alright everyone here's what we got. Two computers networked through
a Dlink router out through our cable modem. The trouble computer is
able to ping my computer and sometimes able to see my shared drives
but is currently unable to connect to the internet. After moving the
network card into a differnt slot today due to some video issues that
we got resolved, we lost the internet connection. Like I said we are
able to ping my computer from other and prior to today, we were able
to access the internet from that computer but not my computers drives.
Farllon card on the troubled comp, Linksys on mine, Dlink router,
cable modem, two 98 SE comps. I'm running Sygate personal firewall,
and have also configured my computer to be DMZ if this information
matters. Am I missing something big here? I have the TCP, IPX, Dial
up, card adapter, file and printer sharing, client and all the stuff I
know we're suppose to have but what is the right way to configure this
all? Oh...IE 6 Auto detect setting checked. TIA everyone.

Just some more info...

Heres the story:
-We put an old PCI VGA card in, Voodoo 3 2000 because the AGP card fan
broke.
-Then the network card wasnt detected at all. We noticed the card
wasnt getting power because the lights on the back of the card werent
lit.
-Then we moved the network card to another PCI slot. Windows begged to
reinstall drivers so I did.
-Lost internet connection. We fixed the good AGP card fan (works like
a charm now)and still lost connection.
-We put the Ethernet card back to the previous, working PCI slot. Same
problem.

So basically all this happened after putting in the old VGA card

After even more trouble shooting we found out that the internet didnt
work even if we bypassed the router and it didnt work when we tried it
in linux. It did however work when we went to a different win98 os on
the same computer that hadn't been touched in over a couple of months.
We did notice that the IRQ of the Network card has been shared either
with the Video card, the sound card, or even both sometimes on the
original 98 OS.

So that eliminates the possibility of it being a hardware problem, a
bios problem, and a router problem. My dad thinks its a virus. I think
its either the network settings or possibly the Voodoo
settings/drivers interfering.
Please Help Us. TIA.
