How do I set up email in Outlook 97?

I recently lost the free trial of Office 2003 and reverted back to Outlook
97. I am unable to send or receive and it keeps asking for the path to my
mailbox. I have no clue and we do not have an administrator for a company of
2 people. I need to use Outlook for tasks, reminders, etc but am not sure
what I have done wrong. I now have lost all information and contacts and
previous emails and have no clue how that happened. HELP!!

See if the following article helps you get back on your feet:

You probably have a .PST file already on your system -- by default it's
called mailbox.pst in Outlook 97. The tutorial should help you find it and
add it to your Outlook 97 profile.

You might also need this information if the tutorial doesn't include it:

Jocelyn,

Thanx for your help. Unfortunately, I am getting errors when I try to open
Outlook now. There are some .ecf files that it says are missing or and it
says something about the syntax. I wrote them down and recopied them from my
CD into the addin folder but it is still not working. Also, when I try to
start up Outlook now it tells me that the path is not valid but gives me no
option to change it because I can't even get it to open. I am more dangerous

Have you tried repairing your Outlook/Office 97 installation from the CD?

Yes I have. I have tried copying the .ecf files directly from the cd and
replacing them in the addins folder to no avail. It was working fine before
I installed and uninstalled Office 2003 trial. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling. I have tried everything I can imagine to get this to work.

Well, that got rid of the error but now "outlook.exe has experienced an error
and will be shut down". LOL Next guess? :)

Does that error appear as soon as you try to run Outlook, or when?

Yes it did. I actually managed to get rid of that error. It now will start
up but I cannot send messages and all my contacts etc are gone. This is the
error I get:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'Gary Benik' on 8/11/2005 8:57 AM
No transport provider was available for delivery to this
recipient.

I have no clue where to set up and transport provider. Help?

In any of the steps you've already taken, did you ever delete and recreate
your Outlook profile from scratch? If not, try it now, and then add your
mailbox.pst file to that new profile.
