How do I set a variable in response to a click in powerpoint then.

I am building an animated simulation of a mechanical device with a remote
control in powerpoint 2007. I can get the animation to work except for
catering for the following behaviour: -
1. The mechanical device operates in a cycle but only stops in one position.
2. The remote control has a stop/start button that can be clicked at any time.
3. If the device is stopped then it will start moving when the button is
clicked.
3. If the device is already moving then it will stop at the next time it
reaches the stop position of its operating cycle after the button is clicked
(i.e. it doesn't necessarily stop when the button is clicked - but it stops
within one cycle when it reaches the stop position).
Any ideas on how I could achieve the last point?

Hi Kevin,

I've animated mechanical devices and I reckon this one is difficult. Even on
a long animation sequence that is looped, it is impossible to get it to
stop/ start on a prescribed way. Maybe someone can stop by with some VBA
solution.

By the way, one way I got around this was to cover certain parts of the
animated slide with an auto shape with its background set to "background".
By making it disappear, it made the already animating animation *appear*.
Bit of trickery, but it wont help with your problem.
