how do I save a paper on a CD-R in Word?

How can I save my paper to a CD-R in MS Word? I have the disc in the drive
and I keep getting a message to insert a disk.

You never save directly to the CD. Save it to your hard drive and then use
your regular CD burning software to put it on the CD.
