How do I rollback to SP1?

Hi,

Not sure where to post this, but I want to roll back Windows XP SP2 to SP1
on my girlfriends laptop as ever since I did the upgrade (only a couple of
months ago...lol) it has been running sooooo sloooooow.

System Restore is not an option as it wasn't turned on and she hasn't got
any idea where her original CD's are...

She only has 128mg RAM which I thought might be the problem, but as she only
uses he PC for minor things she can't be bothered paying for extra RAM...

Any ideas?

Thanks.
D.

Hi,

With 128 MB RAM you might be better to roll back to Windows 98.
Otherwise, SP2 can be uninstalled using Control Panel / Add or Remove
Programs. It is probably the last entry or nearby in the list.

How about buying your girlfriend more RAM?

Hope that helps,

I'm not 100% sure how to install it though. Are there any useful online
guides you know of? Its for a Toshiba Satellite 1800 Laptop...

Dear Deeski D,

I'm not an expert on N'books. I'm sure if you an internet search you will
find some help on installing it yourself. XP barely works on 256MB RAM. 512
Would be better. Depending on the age of the Notebook of course.
Someone else reading this may have a suggestion?

Plus if anyone wants a Notebook recommendation, I can throw in my 2 bits
worth. i.e. I have a new LG F1 w/ 100 gb disk & 2GB DDR2 Vista business came
with it. (I had to restrain myself from loading Longhorn Server on it ;-)
It goes like a rocket!! And the LG update tool for hardware specific drivers
is great. With Toshiba I can never tell which is the latest driver for this
or that, even though I write device drivers myself! Anyway, I digress...

Hope that helps,

Go to www.4allmemory.com and put in the make, model and type number and you will find for $30 you
can get 128 Megs of the correct memory and there is a link to the installation guide. The Toshiba
should have a door on the bottom, held in by one small screw. Open that door and there is a socket
to press the memory board into. Just follow the installation guide. For $50 you can get 256 Megs
which would make a big difference in the computer performance. A 128 meg board would give you a
total of 256 megs which is the "real" bottom limit for Windows XP.
